Dual 5850s or 1 6950/70

Okay...here's the deal. I plan on upgrading my Core 2 Duo 8400 and Gigabyte EP45-UD3P to this combo http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...t=Combo.572739 within the next month or so.

NOW...since the board is crossfire, I am wondering which would be better.

1) Buying ONE new video card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814161356 or

2) buying another 5850 to run in crossfire? Believe it or not, they still cost between $200 and $250.

In the LONG run...what is better?

I am getting a new monitor tomorrow...a 24" Asus that supports 1080p 1920 x 1080 resolution, an HDMI input and 2ms 🙂 I am VERY happy about that, BUT want to make sure I not only take advantage of the monitor, but also the new mobo and cpu.

Thanks in advance 🙂

Okay, thanks for the QUICK advise. Does it matter if it's the same brand...or just that it is another 5850 and that the "specs" match?

Well, a decent 750W should be fine. If it's modular, it's probably a better model. It's not a design they typically (if ever?) use on low end models.

lol...I just looked inside my Antec 900, and unless I move my hard drives around...nothing else will fit. Okay, another card will fit, just not able to plug it in 🙂

The power supply IS 750W

5850 X 2 is a better alternative IMO. There is really not much the 6 series offers over the 5. Anyway there would be not point buying a 6970 -- when you can buy a 6950 and have a darn good chance of unlocking it to a 6970. Also be sure to O/C that Phenom II if you can to get the most out of you Crossfire rig !

Oh, I most definitely plan on overclocking the hell out of it....but not to the point that it gets as hot as hell itself is 😛

What games do you play?
You said long run...what about buying another 6950 down the road? I don't think this is so cut and dry (unless you've already made up your mind of course)

Crysis, COD (all of them) Medal of Honor etc...

The new mobo and cpu (and memory) will be here by the end of the week. For NOW, I will be using the one 5850 I have. I REALLY don't think there will be room in my case (Antec 900) for the 6950 due to the hard drive cage, but I COULD always move my HDDs to the one above it.

At $300 it would be QUITE a way down the road I think.
