I used to have that one. It really sux. After tring teh 2405 and now the 2005FPW I just placed an order for the NEC 70GX2

Smaller monitor but better pic quality + res + Bright Coating > Dell

Downgrading from 20" Widescreen to 17" but no regrets

the 1907's are the new ones, 1000:1 contrast, 5ms response, Samsung panels. The quality of them unbeatable for the price. A majority of the people getting the 1907's are reporting they're getting this panel http://www.samsung.com/Products/TFTLCD/...ors_n_Industrial/LTM190EX/LTM190EX.htm . both mine are that panel.

I just wish I had more screen resolution on one monitor.

3- While holding the 2 buttons press now the 'Power' button.
4- Once the screen in ON, unpress the 3 buttons.
5- Go to OSD menu (by pressing 'Menu' button) then select the 'Reinit' option (red point at the bottom of menu).
6- Select 'Factory' option.
7- You can see now the panel manufacturer

You should get one of three screens:

LTM190E4 - Samsung 20ms PVA
M190EN03 - AUO 8ms P-MVA
AUO 19 - the same AUO 8ms P-MVA

i've had that same opinion for a long time.

i guess most people just won't admit to themselves that they should have corrective lenses.

I know this is about a week late, but I just want to get this straight. You're complaining because you failed to look at the specs and see that it is a 1280 x 1024 monitor? Is that Dell's fault? I love that resolution.

most 19" LCDs are 1280 X 1024... Some high quality ones from big manufacturers will run at 1600 X 1200 but you can't blame Dell for selling you one that runs at a lower res. You were the one picking out the monitor.

1600 for a 19"? Better get a microscope to read text. All 19 inchers use 1280 native resolution. If you want 1600, then fork over more $ for a larger monitor. Even an expensive 19 incher will look bad at 1600 vs 1280.

I got the viewsonic VX2024wm 20.1" and it does 1680x1050 (widescreen) and honestly even on a 20" display any higher resolution could get uncomfortable. I had a Inspiron 9300 with a 17" widescreen at 1920x1200 - the text was so tiny it was hard to read sometimes. I got used to it after awhile, but I got eyestrain after using it for more than a few hours at a time.

For graphics I can see why you would want the higher res since you aren't reading text nearly so much, but other than that it isn't worth it.

Exact same monitor I'm looking at picking on sale for $350 + tax/shipping.

Its not like you didn't know this when you bought it. Complain about the color banding or the brightness or something... weak!

I just bought this car and it only has 4 wheels! I wanted 5!

Other than the resolution, would you (or anyone else) mind giving your impressions of that monitor? I'm looking for an LCD monitor and the price for this one seems very good. The specs looks good, too, but from reading the LCD Buyer's Guide at the top, I realized that I can't rely solely on those (just like audio items). I would most likely run it at 1280x1024 so the resolution doesn't bother me at all.

Thanks.

EDIT: I just realized that I should mention what I do with my computer. Right now I have a Dell P780 17in Trinitron monitor (goes up to 1600x1200 but that's WAAYYY too small for me). I play games regularly (Oblivion right now) and I also do quite a bit of coding since I'm a CS (and physics) major. I'm also learning LaTeX. I don't watch a lot of movies on here since I just output those to a TV and I don't do photo editing.

My roommate has a Hyundai L90D+ and that monitor looks excellent to me. I don't notice any afterimages in games on it and the colors looks good to me (even though it's 6-bit, isn't it?).

I use Ubuntu Linux and Windows XP. On the P780, I can run 1280x1024 without too much trouble, but there are problems at times (such as braces looking like parentheses when coding). In Windows, the highest I can run is 1152x864 or whatever that is or else my eyes begin to hurt.

Wow, this just got a lot longer than I though it would. If you want, I can just make a new thread about this and leave you alone here.

I'd say go with the 1907 and hope you get the Samsung LTM190EX panels... I just bought two and both have those panels. I use mine primarily for gaming and graphic design, and I don't have a single complaint. No dead pixels, great response time, great contrast ratio, and in spite of the fact that the panels are 6-bit, the colors are still dead-on (compared to my 5 year-old CRT, at least). I've seen hundreds of other Dell monitors that look like ****** (the ones at my workplace, for example). Dead spots, non-uniform coloration, poor black representation, etc. One of my brand-new Dells at work (a non-Ultrasharp, unfortunately) even has huge scanlines across the entire screen.

But these monitors are gorgeous. And for $219, I'm definitely not complaining.

ALL 19-inch LCD monitors are 1280x1024.

That's one of the advantages of 19-inch LCD panels for many people. They give the largest character size of virtually any flat panel monitor. When you go to the 1600x1200 of the 20-inch panels, the actual screen size of characters gets a little smaller.

The 1907FP is inferior alone based on the TN panel it uses instead of the former's MVA/PVA panels. The 1000:1 contrast is more overblown than...(insert dirty joke here). Realistically it may be 400:1, and the 1905FP probably reached at least 500:1.

Hmmm....I'm getting conflicting opinions here. The Samsung spec sheet says that it can show 16.7M colors. Is that just due to dithering?

Would you recommend that I look for the 1905 instead? I was also looking at the Viewsonic VP920b, but I can't find any reviews.

How much would I have to spend to get a decent LCD? Keep in mind that I think my roommate's L90D+ looks very good.

Thanks again to xknight and khaustic.

Well I just purchased mine and when I get it and it does not have a Samsung panel I will be returning it.
