Technically I have both of these setup in my office, but I'm not sure which machine I want to use as my primary machine.

Currently I have two 15" Dell LCDs attached to desktop machine under my desk and then I have one 19" Dell Trinitron Monitor attcahed to my laptop. I have always used the laptop as my primary machine as I take it home with me each day, but I am starting to enjoy having two screens to work on (I used to do it with two old 17" CRTs...and forgot how much I loved having that extra monitor).

Anyway, so what would you guys go with? Keep in mind that all important code, files, etc. is kept on a common user drive or VSS, so accessing my mail and other important information can easily be done from either and easily switched between the two. Also, The 15" LCDs are at 1024x768 and the 19" CRT is at 1280x1024.

1 19. You could always add another 17, 19, or even 15 down the road if you REALLY need it. Also the 19 will have better resale etc...

agreed, the 19 is the better choice. If down the line you decide you want 19s and you have 2 15s, you'll have to buy 2 19s and then you'll have 15s sitting around with nothing to do. Buy the 19 and when your budget increases, get another one.

I must not have been clear. I already have both of these configurations setup in my office. and tied to two separate machines. I am just up in the air about which I should use as my primary. These are not my machines/displays, but my company's, so I am not so worried about resale, etc.

I'd go with the 1 19" LCD. All of the 15" LCDs that I have seen do not look as sharp as the higher resolution LCDs.

While's its true that once you go double screen you don't want to go back - one 15" just doesn't have enough real estate to not get in your way.

One 19 inch off course. If the choice would be between 1x19" and 2x17", the choice would be clear :D (2x)

I think it depends on what you use your computer for. At work, I have 2 21" CRTs, but if I had to, I'd still take 2 smaller monitors over one even larger monitor, because I need to look at multiple large things at a time, and the aspect ratio of dual monitors is better for putting thing A next to thing B. At home, I usually don't need to see too many large windows at once (mozilla, chat windows, that's about it), so I'd go for one larger monitor.

single 19inch. size and image quality on monitors are too dear for me to have to downsize!
