Dual 15" LCD or single 17"?

My 19" CRT is taking up too much real estate, and I feel that my eyes are suffering as well. I don't play a lot of games - just a little NHL 2002 lately. I do meddle in Visual Basic and Dreamweaver and related software and web development.

So, for my money, which do you think would be better, dual 15" LCD or single 17" (or 18")? I don't really have the cash for dual 17".

As I've never really examined a 17" LCD, what is the physical aspect ratio of the screen? I'm assuming 5:4 to match the 1280x1024 resolution, otherwise the pixels would not be square.

Regards,
Craig

fwiw i've got a 15" lcd with a 19 crt in a dual config with a matrox g200mms (supports up to 4 monitors-whoa-4 separate lcd's now that would be cool). anyway, given what i'm staring at, i would much rather have two 15's, than one 17. i guess it depends on what you do, but having two separate screens for my purpose is much better.

A 17" CRT likely has the same screen real estate as one 15" LCD. Remember, only 15" or so of the CRT is "viewable", whereas the same stat on LCD's is the actual viewable space. If cost wasn't the major factor, I'd go with two LCDs.

Triple? No thanks. But since 15" LCD's are about half the cost of their 17" counterparts, I was curious to know which setup people would prefer.

I am completely jonezing for a dual 15" setup since prices are getting in the ballpark! Since I always have so many windows open it sure would be nice to have some open here and some open there. To me a 17" makes the text a bit hard on the eyes if you're not right on top of it...it's native resolution probably won't be 1024x768. 1024x768 is right where it's at. Since I don't have my monitors right in front of me but at a good arms.5 length away, any higher res just kills the eyes after a few hours. All these 1600x1200 freaks of nature just annoy & amaze me...go for the two LCD setup!!

Actually, I'd kill for a single 18-20" LCD @ 1600x1200. Heck, you can get a 15" laptop screen at 1600x1200, why not an 18" desktop? Until that happens (and is affordable), I'm leaning toward the dual setup.
