DST update with Windows 2000 clients on a domain

On a domain, workstations sync their time/date with the server.

My understanding is that even if the 2007 DST updates are installed on a server, the time will not sync properly to the workstations because the server sends out the time in GMT and the stations still assume that their own time zone and DST settings are correct.

My question is - let's say the DST update IS installed on the server, but we don't install the update on a workstation. Instead each user is responsible for checking and correcting their own time when DST comes into affect.

Am I correct in assuming that this will cause issues, because it will keep trying to sync it's time with the server, which will have the correct DST settings?

Thanks...

Nope, time sync is always done using UTC, and then the timezone is applied locally. As far as the domain (Kerberos) is concerned, the time will be synched.

You will run into problems if people start manually adjusting the clock to "match" the servers.

Just write a GPO to run the update on your 2000 workstaions, put it at the root of your forest, apply then reboot the workstations.
