Walmart has a whole system with single LNB dish for $49.99 cash and carry. No contract. All the time. This is best for those of you who want to add a receiver or upgrade their old one. These units are basic but pretty fast. Use your Walmart gift card and get the other $10 off.

GAME OVER

If it is true what DirecTV did then that is too cool. I am happy that they figured out a way to fight the hacking since I don't hack. But, I also know a few friends that are pretty pissed at this time.

According to HackHU there is a fix, but how much will this one cost?

Thanks guys for the info on the DirecTV deals.

Saw a deal at Fat Wallet where you can get:

<< Get DIRECTV hardware and professional installation for FREE when you sign up for just one month of programming >>

FREE DIRECTV Hardware and Installation - ***Extend to 5/1/2001

hesdeadjim,
No, the hacking is not done and over with. Far from it. (But since you are a DirecTV employee, I guess you have to make people "THINK" that).

First off, many use a card emulator. These are not affected by the ECM's, and cost under $100. The people that got hurt are the ones that paid for a preprogrammed card, or left a card in the receiver. However, most sellers of preprogrammed cards have said they will supply another card.

BTW, this is all 100% legal in Canada and other countries.

RobsTV,

Emulation is still up and running, that is true. But, the average joe hacker was NOT using emulation. Most people by now had cloned their cards and were using activation OR had purchased a card fromn a dealer pre-programmed. Those are the people that were taken down, I'd say DTV got about 85% of the hacking taken care of with the latest ECM. The game is not yet over.

Disclaimer: I do not condone signal theft. As a matter of fact, I can't even get satellite TV where I live. It is against the rules. :(

I believe there is some law that you are not to be restricted on where you obtain your television signal from. I think it is against the law for someone to tell you that you cannot have a satellite dish. I had some slight difficulty when I moved into my new apartment last August. The property owners would not let me mount my dish on the front post to my apartment because children playing could get hurt. I argued that children could also get hurt playing around the various barbeque grills that people leave on their porches, but I was told if I wanted to have one it would have to be on my balcony. Luckily my apartment balcony faces south. There was a tree in the way, but luckily there's a break right where the dish needed to be. I went with the satellite bucket dish install:

WilsonCat is correct and,
Emulation does not cost a $100. You need a extra computer also with the card programmer and interface board. For those that got their card fried, you may need a new card at $250 or more or an SU2 Unlooper, not Cheap for those thinking about "testing" your sat.

Hope is near for the testing community. The H stream will go away in about 6 months. Good Luck to all ya testers. That 50 walmart deal is not nationwide. Here in these parts it is 140 for a basic system at wallyword local. Buy Hu now and buy plenty. Wise investment. Dave is gonna change the rules of the game. Its only a matter of time. i think Best Buys B&M is 49 for hughes. Contract might have to be filled there though.

I have heard that for the last two years. I fix is on its way. Just a simple boot loader. Emulators are also a good way to go. The HU was hacked when it got hit so it won't be long until free code is floating around for it.

HACKING over?? hahaha, thats hilarious...the HU 3M's are running proud...the H cards still run with emulation... and for the cards that got hit, the image on the card is still valid, the 'write once' section of the prom was written to, you can still run the hit cards via boot strap, links to build the things are floating around like crazy ;)

There is also a post floating around for a free DTV system, you just have to use the reference numbers from a DTV employee (which is very easy to find). You only pay shipping of 29 bucks for a dual LNB setup..

Unhackable....haha

Nice to know, need to get these HU's working with emulation, release the freeware already. The Mod 303 with emulation is good, but no Sony or Hughes with DD or Plus systems...

I had a very kind DTV employee email me his employee number. I called DTV today and it went very smooth. $26.70 with tax delivered to my door. Free professional instalation , dish , reciever , remote. Optical out and digital 5.1 if you have the decoder amp. (But the CSR told me that it is "mono" 5.1 what ever that is. They say that the S-Video cable is included but not the optical out cable. (Optical outs are $10.00 at Sears. It should be here in 2 to 3 days and they will install it on February 12th. in the morning. The free install includes up to 100 feet of coax and 25 feet of phone line. I have to sign up for 1 month of the $31.99 and after that I will probably go to the $21.99 per month deal. When the installers arrrive they assess the location. If there are major obstructions in the way, they will inform you. Once the Dish is installed, you are on the hook. You cannot return it. If the installers eyeball the situation and feel it wont work out, you have 30 days to return the package for a full refund. After 30 days you will be charged $200 if you do not activate for at least the 1 month. I understand that out west that the dish has to point in a southwest direction. Thanks again to the gracious employee who took the time to email me. Hope this answers any questions anyone has.

You may want to check into Dish Network. For a one year subscription to Dish Network's America's Top 50 for $224 you can get your hardware and a free installation kit from suttertel.com. To get a second receiver and the dual LNB antenna will probably cost about an additional $100. The Dish Network program packages are generally a little cheaper than the DSS programming packages with similar content. I have had my Dish Network system for about 5 years and it sure beats my old cable service.

Update on my Directv deal. There is no optical out. You do not get a s-video cable. All is hooked up and running well. Hint for additional $50.00 rebate. Tell them all you want is the first month at $31.99 and then you want to drop down to the $21.99 package. They will then offer you a $50.00 rebate if you agree to one year at $31.99.

I got an RCA box. Works just fine. No you do not have a choice. It is the same RCA box that you see at SAMS B&M. Hope that helps.
