DSLR 600-1200 w/lens (60D, 600D, D5100)

I just sold my Nikon D40 and was looking to get a more modern camera that could do 1080p video so I don't have to drag around a point and shoot just for video.

I'm looking at Canon or Nikons and more specifically the Canon 60D, 600D and Nikon D5100.

I have no existing lens collection, so that isn't an issue.

Anyone have experiences, recommendations etc?
 
I'd say the D5100 has the edge in terms of photo quality, but if you're more interested in video, the Canons might be better.
 
D5100 has Continuous Auto Focus during video (subjective), but if you're an MF guy you could probably consider any of them. The 600D does have an edge in "optical" zoom (a feature the 60D doesn't have). The 550D also has hacked firmware that may better aid you in videography as well.
 
Nikons' have problem with live-view exposure in manual mode. Its bitrate is 2x lower (although it's more efficient than Canons', difference in quality is there.) On-board audio processor is worse. Does not offer various video mode that Canons do.

If video is your primary, Canon's offering is just better plus you can use a great custom picture style developed by Technicolor.

I ended up with the 60D because I needed to get it today, because I'm leaving tomorrow. I think it's a reasonably good deal.

60D + 18-135 3.5-5.6 IS + UV filter+ Bag+extra battery+hood for $1400.
 
Video on my 60D is pretty good. Also, as a Canon owner I'm mature enough to admit the recent Nikon's have the edge in still frame quality, although you have to be really, really fussy to see it.

However, my 60D is nowhere near the quality of a $1,000 dedicated HD video camera. The amount of compression dSLR's apply to video is simply ridiculous.
