at my current address, i can get at&t's new uverse plan, which is super high speed dsl (8mb down and 1 mb up) and tv service in one package, over the phone line.

i want to move to a house 5 blocks away, to the north. problem is, there is a dsl dead zone that starts literally across the street, to the north, from where i currently live.

:|

really fricking annoying

Eh, I get 8-9MB down tough the up is about 385Kish
My old land line alone almost cost more than my cable internet + Vonage

I suppose it depends on your local options.

here that'd be 6/384 and $70+ a month.

dsl is 6/768 (8/1 with uverse) and $50 with phone service

Sounds like you live right on the border of a AT&T/Verizon split.
Verizon has ****** for service in the Houston area.
