I get 420/220 with Bellsouth, constant drops, 3000+ms pings, idiot phone reps, and straight up lies from them.
Just one more week before I drop them.

From DSLREPORTS...as I know for a fact that most home hardware can't support a 10Mbps connect...
Most people on OOL are capable of getting 4Mbps down and near 1Mbps up. Top speeds seem to be around 8Mbps down.
OOL support probably won't help you much if you are above 3Mbps.
Once you do hit the 4Mbps range, there probably is little you can do to improve substantially. There are factors that are out of your control that can affect your speeds. Nodes are not all created alike.
While OOL seems to not have crowded nodes, remember, we are on cable and speeds can fluctuate at times. Right now, most people get the same speeds at peak times as they do at off-peak times.
Also I have found upload is really 150kbps if you use it much. They have strict guidelines....
While my connect once I get it will always be 3Mbps. I know alot of cable users that tell me they have had 3Mbps forever, but anytime I am online at their houses I am getting 1.5 or so speeds at the most and often during the 5-7pm after work rush like 300-500k....I will stick with DSL even if more money.

i'm assuming he meant 1mbp/s.. there's no way to get 10mbps from cable (1mb/s), I get ~450k/s max

No, he meant 10mbps, I've been downloading from fast servers at about 1.06MB/s for years now with optonline, the 5 people I know in my area with it get the same speeds.

My ISP just started offering 5 Mbps downstream, and 1 Mbps upstream for about $50 a month CND. I just ordered it and should have it by tomorrow.
So, that' like $38 US for you guys.

You may want to let others on DSLREPORTS see your findings...chances are you are not really hitting those speeds...there can be caching and a ton of other 'false' reportings of linkspeed. The only true tests are times for large file downloads and these cannot be in your cache anywhere.
What modem are you using? Seriously last I checked home equipment could not handle more than around 8Mbps...and many not more than 6Mbps in use.
You can check it all out yourself at dslreports.com....OOL has it's own section.

Plenty of people hitting >8Mbps.. I'm not home right now, so I can't test for myself, but I have downloaded large files from many sites at >1MB/s. I'm using a terayon modem.
HOLY!!! 1mpbs UL is the bomb, even 2mb or 3mb on the DL would be more then sufficient. Thought I would rather 2mbps/2mbps any days of the week over faster download and much, much slower UL like 3mbps/384kbpsOriginally posted by: BlueSkyzz

I am using the Surfboard 4200. Trust me, I hit 10 mbps (1.25 MB/s) all the time. Optonline has its own dedicated ftp server for speed testing, in which I get like 1.16 MB/s (Megabytes), and from Microsoft I get around 1.1 MB/s. I seem to get the best speeds from people who use akamai as their cache service provider. alkemyst, dslreports speed tests are far from accurate, and the servers that provide them are always flooded. Unless you ever use an optimum online connection, you cannot say that we are lying. Trust me, I have no reason to lie, I do attain the 10 mbps rating that it is given, and everyone I know hits those speeds as well.Originally posted by: alkemyst

17653/835 is almost reported at that link...I am talking the forums not the speedtest crap...if you check out 1.5Mbps DSL you will find asshats reporting 10Mbps+ as well.
I would be surprised anyone legitimately getting regular downloads of 8Mbps even.
