DSL without phone service?

PacBell and I have had words. I don't have phone service anymore (living on my cell phone).

Adelphia doesn't offer cable modems in my area.

Can DSL be installed by an outside proveder (like Earthlink) without having an existing phone line? Or maybe only with a 3rd party phone service vendor's lines (ick... expensive).

Tired of only being able to go online while at work. ;-)

Bottom line, the Telco owns the copper coming into your house so no matter who you buy service from it's coming over the same line and you are going to have to deal with the telco at some point. unless something is different in your area thats just the way it goes.

good luck

Someone had posted a previous question a few weeks ago. I believed he lived in California, and someone had told him that some DSL providers don't need phone service. I can't seem to find the post, but it is possible. Hope this helps.

I most places, if don?t have active phone service you have to pay an additional fee. The difference between this fee and the cheapest phone service is only few $$$.
