dsl with pppoe and router

I read a post below about PPPoE and routers.
What is PPPoE?
How do I know if I have that?
Why won't PPPoE work with regular routers?
Thanx for your time.

If you have to install a software to make it work basically it uses Dial Up Networking & VPN to make connection so if you just plug a cable modem into a network card and it works, you don't have it.

PPPoE won't work with regular router because you need to log in everytime, so if a router doesn't prompt you, connect will never establish.

Linksys has PPPoe and I think netgear, not sure..

Hmm...no software here...just plug from modem to NIC. I guess I don't have to worry about it and just get any ol router. Thanx.
