DSL - Telocity, can't get things to work!

First, I am in Northern CA. I ordered DSL a few weeks ago and received everything.. here is what I plan on hooking up to the line:

SMC Barricade 4 port DSL Router
Linux Server for the Web/Mail/etc. Server
2 Client Machines

For now however,I just want to get my lone win98 machine working. So I installed everything per intructions and also installed the s/w using both USB and ethernet.

Problem is that I can never get the configuration management to ever stop. The status light continues to blink green. The power light stays green. Any help from anyone? Is it because there servers are down? IF I already know what my static IP is suppose to be, is it possible for me to just setup my IP directly instead of doing the DHCP IP route configuration they want you to do?? Thx in advance..

I had Teloshity for a while, at my house in Atlanta, and they suck. I switched to them from BellSouth, because I wanted to run a server. With BellSouth I got 1220 downstream/220 upstream speeds. Teloshity's best speed that they could get me was about 700 downstream. The reason for this is that their network is crap. Their whole company is crap. Don't use USB, because Ethernet is much better. You know that it is not neccessary to install any software on your computer, correct? Call Teloshity's tech support to find out DNS, and other information. Tell them that you do not want to put on any software, and that you just want to set it up through Windows. You may have to call a couple times in order to find someone who is not ignorant. When I called them I almost always spoke to ignorant mexican immigrants who could barely speak English. You should reset your gateway by unplugging the power, and the telephone line. Then put your finger on the end of the telephone line for thirty seconds. Then plug it all back in. It might work now. If it does not, possibly the servers are down. They go down alot, in my experience. You can call Teloshity to see if they are down. I switched back to BellSouth after a month of scheisse. Now I use a Linksys DHCP DSL Router on their Speed Touch Home modem. It works excellent, and BellSouth almost never goes out. Maybe Teloshity is better in your area than it is in Atlanta though. If not consider switching to another provider. It will only get worse. Gutes Glück.

Can you tell us what type of CPE they gave you (i.e. what DSL modem/bridge/router did they have you buy)? I was with Telocity briefly after my Northpoint IDSL service died, but I used my IDSL equipment instead of Telocity's equipment, so I don't know what equipment they use. I moved to Speakeasy after Telocity dropped IDSL service.

On my DSL bridge (Efficient Networks 5271), I have a link light that stays solid when the connection is active. It blinks when it has problems synching to the CO. Has the DSL internal wiring already been done or did you receive all the equipment and fiddling around with it until the installation tech comes by? If your installation hasn't been completed yet, I would guess that the blinking light is because they don't have the connection set up properly yet. If you already know your IP (static, right?), subnet, gateway, and DNS info, you can probably input everything into network neighborhood directly.

No, I got the home self install kit. The DSL modem I am not sure what kind it is.. it is more vertical, about 1 1/2 feet high. It is also grey. I am also about 5000 ft from the CO. TElocity's tech support is also down for 2 days.. as well as their web page that may help.. any other suggestions? Thx in advance already guys..

You have the standard Telocity Gateway. It is made by Telocity, and is proprietary. It is the same one that I had. Sounds really bad if their tech support is down. Consider switching to a better company. I know it is a pain, however you may find it to be worthwile. Try calling 1-800-TELOCITY. Also, if you have not already, go to www.dslreports.com.
