DSL sucks.

I went from getting 250k/sec+ on cable at my old apartment to never getting more than 40k/sec on the crappy DSL at the new place. I am not impressed.

is that the fastest speed you can get?

dsl can rock if you in the right area. speak easy offers a 6mb down 768 line. How I wish I could get that.

I don't know, this was already set up when I got here so I just went with it, I haven't really researched what's available. This particular DSL definitely sucks, though.

Through Speakeasy it is $100 a month. I pay $45 a month through SBC for 6000/608.

So no DSL doesn't suck, your areas DSL sucks. And I know the feeling, I was stuck in a apartment where the max was 768/128 and I hated it...

That's a nice speed for that price.

It really depends on your phone line quality.

Recently Bell Sympatico upped bandwidth by 100% both upload and download and it crapped out my connection.

I had to get them to manually stick me back into the crapper so at least it would work. Good news is I'm moving out of this crappy place soon. Hopefully anyway.

The downside to cable is you gota share it since there is only one line in your area (relatively speaking), which means either you may be one of few people getting service (the best scenario) or you are one of many whom gets service (worst scenario) on that one line.

DSL is a dedicated line where each phone line can have its own dedicated DSL connection but it's sadly limited by line quality.

I pay $60 for 768/384 One of the drawbacks about living in the boonies no competitino cable isn't even able to get out here. Better tha dial up I guess though

I'm not proud of this DSL serivce either, its terrible. I KIND of miss cable, but it wasn't all that grand either. I'ma just install a T1 line... 😉

$35 a month for 1500/256 DSL here if I sign a 1 year contract. If not its $50 a month.

Only option I have, no Cable at all in my area (Internet, or TV).

I love my DSL right now. I have Bellsouth with home networking, and got upgraded to 3000 a couple of weeks ago at no extra charge (I knew they were going to have to compete with Comcast here in Atlanta). $54.95 split with my roommate🙂

cable modem in my area sucked huge scrotum. i had adelphia powerlink and averaged about 600kbps/220kbps. i COULD achieve up to 3mbps, but that's only if i have like 10 downloads going. the max throughput for a single transfer was total crap! i got verizon 1.5/384 and average about 1.3/360 for $30/month. i like it!
