DSL speeds guaranteed?

a faq on dslreports says that DSL speeds are guaranteed...but i'm only getting 348 down on my 768 advertised sbc/yahoo line. what's the deal?

well i think i might be but then why would they sign me up in the first place?

generally, if you're getting 90% of the advertised speeds, then your line/connection is good (most of the othe 10% is for overhead, i think). At my old house, I was getting about 650 on my 768, but at this new place, Im only getting 160. Reason being that Im abuot 13500 from the central office. SBC's cutoff for a 768 line is supposdly 12,000 feet. After that they go to 384 and then 192

Also depending on your ISP you may not always be getting close to your max speeds. Maybe they've oversold their service too much? If it just happens at high traffic times (evenings for example) then I would say thats normal and quite acceptable. Your dsl circuit and bandwidth available to it may be dedicated unlike on cable, but that still isn't a guarentee the ISP has the bandwidth to fill it.
