DSL sharing

I've been having trouble lately...

I'm trying to share my DSL connection between a few computers in my house. I had everything set up with ICS, but it's just too unreliable; it just peters out sometimes.

I want to switch. I'd love to get a router, but I just can't afford it right now; I just upgraded my system & I can't justify an additional $80-$120 to my wife 🙂. I have an old 486 box sitting in the corner that I could configure as a Linux box, but Redhat won't recognize some of the hardware (specifically the vid card).

Does anyone know of an easy to configure and tolerant Linux that could route for me? I have zero Linux experience.
