Good evening everyone. I need assistance, I am installing a new system and trying to get the onboard lan to work. i am using a Duron with a Soyo k7vempro mobo. it has the realtek rtl8139 lan card. I installed the drivers and windows device manager says it is working fine. Used the internet wizard and everything went smoothly. Still can't get the dsl to run. My buddy told me to use ipconfig from the command prompt and release and renew the ip address and I rebooted but still no internet. Please help, sucks without internet.
Thanks in advance.

Try this out and see if it works.

unplug the broadband modem and let it sit for a few minutes. 5-6 should be good.
Then shut off your pc as well.

Fire up the broadband modem, then once it gets all up and running, fire up the PC.
Run the ipconfgi option again and see wht you get for an iP.

Post your results here so we can see if you have an ip from your ISP or not.

Do you know if your DSL provider uses pppoe? If so you either need some sort of software, like EnterNet, or a router that supports pppoe to make the connection.

I really like how fast winxp's ppoe client logs on... but for my win2k machine, I use Enternet like 1.4 or 1.5, from pacbell. If you can't find it on your isp's site, go to http://www.efficient.com/products/purchase.html, where you can download v1.5c that will work for 30 days or longer if you purchase it. Good luck!

I've seen Sigon's posts and he is very smart but I'll just add for future reference:

I set up a system with this board and had a lot of trouble with the onbard nic. It would just go dead intermittently and would not renew. I never did figure out why. I finally solved it by just turning off the onbard nic in the bios and installing another pci nic which solved all the problems instantly.

for PPOE. get RASPPOE, its a freeware and has worked better than enternet for me.
