I'm going to be moving into a new apartment with only myself within the next month and a half and want to move away from Comcast cable internet. Anyone have 768kbps down DSL service? I can get it from ATT for ~$20/month. Is it fast enough to stream Youtube or something like Hulu without waiting too long? Otherwise, I might spring the extra $15/month to get the 1.5mbps DSL service.

A big chunk of our customer base is on 768/256 wireless, and they don't seem to have any issues with youtube or hulu. Shouldn't be a problem.

That's good to know then. I might just order that ATT setup then and put that $15/month towards more beer. If it's just me using it, I guess it shouldn't be that bad.

I'm currently on a 6mbps w/powerboost from Comcast that goes from 400kbps to full speed depending on the time of the day and how their network is acting. Definitely not getting my money's worth on this current connection, which is almost never at 6mbps. At least it's split between myself and my roommates to lower the rip-off cost.

Go with 1.5 since you're probably going to want to upgrade from this to 3 or 6 eventually.

Or you might want to check what else is in the 6 package now - mine has free wifi access and unlimited long distance.

I am on that right now. I watch Hulu, Netflix Watch It Now, Youtube...etc. The video quality isn't the best but it works.

I don't need anything except internet service. The 3/6 packages are more than I want to spend on internet every month.

Edit:
The basic DSL service also comes with the complimentary wifi at Starbucks and stuff

I might just bite the bullet and go for the 1.5mbps service. It doesn't have a term commitment like the basic DSL (without phone) has. Thanks for the input.

You can just pause it for a few minutes and let it buffer while you're browsing other pages.

Sure high speed is nice, but you can get by alright on 768kbps. It's a great way to save some money.

Yeah.... tough choice... save money or more instant gratification.

I should go for the saving money. If I need to download a large file, I can always do it from my desk in the lab on campus, where I have a ~100mbps connection (checked with speedtest.net).

My grandparents have that level of service. The only difference I notice between their service and my 3mb service is sustained d/l speeds. Youtube works without a hitch, but I've never tried hulu on it.
