I worked helpdesk for a few years and never heard of more filters causing issues. Only thing I suppose it could cause is slightly more capacitance on the line but it's probably a very small amount if any. Now if a filter goes bad I could see it cause some weird things like a short on the line.

More often than not it's an actual phone that causes an issue, not a filter. At my current job I sometimes take 611 calls off hours and there's been plenty of times where a line condition goes away when the person unplugs a certain phone. If you pickup the phone and you have hum or noise on the line chances are good the dsl wont be working very well either.

FIOS represent!

In actuality, I had both FIOS and DSL at my old apt, and the DSL was actually pretty sufficient for everything I do, except for downloading huge ISO files.

The DSL was also way cheaper, in absolute terms.

^^^We have a local company laying FIOS in our area(MTCO). I can't wait for them to get to my neighborhood. DSL is ok for dl's but it's really lacking when it comes to uploads.

My parents live in Florida 9 months out of the year and uploading 720p home videos of their grandchildren takes forever on our dsl line.
