Hi.
Just lately ive been having DSL problems.
Every now and then, it`ll just disconnect from the net. For no reason.
Heres what ive noticed;

When "booting" the modem, a taskbar icon has three colours.
1) Red. No ADSL present
2) Yellow. Initialising ADSL connection.
3) Green. ADSL online.

The computer wont dial out unless its on green. Now when it dissconnects, the icon is red, then yellow.
Why does it do this? Is it a faulty modem? A problem at my ISP?
Or something else.
Its very annoying.

Thanks in advance guys/gals.

I would, but its 50p a minute. So before i do that, i`d like to exhaust my options on my end of the line.

You have to pay for tech support when it's likely it's their problem?

I'd be shopping for a new ISP!

i'll second that, they should have a web site and email support too.

are you behind a router? or connected right to the modem?

might try a simple modem reset (but i doubt that will fix it)

it really sounds like an ISP problem

Edit: do you know anyone else on the same ISP? you could check and see if they are having similar problems.

Take it easy guys. Take a Look at the profiles it some time help. In some places people can not afford to be spoiled brats.

The world is not the same all over, the gentleman is not in the US.

BoomAM your description of your DSL arrangement is not a typical system that most of us here is use to.

In the US, in most cases people get a Cable/DSL Router and do not need to ?Dial?.

Otherwise they use PPPOE software called WinPOET, which is very Quirky.

If you use PPPOE software try to replace it with this:

Link to: Free RASPPPOE, PPP over Ethernet Protocol for Windows 98/98SE/ME/2000/XP.

In addition to JackMDS's excellent advice, you might want to check the hardware. For example, your modem should have some kind of visible indicator that shows when the modem has a link with the PC (via ethernet or USB, depending on the modem). While the problem is occurring, do you see such a link light? If not, you might try replacing the cable. You may also have a problem with your NIC (ethernet card/port) or your USB port, if you're using USB for networking.

Also, does the problem occur often, while there is traffic on the network, or only while your system is idle? You may need to enable a keepalive feature in your PPPoE software, if it has one.

It seems to be running OK upto now. Problem seems to have gone.
I`ll still be keeping an eye on it though.

Ive been using Tiscali for the last 4 years, and a slight line problem is no reason to drop them for another ISP. They`ve been very good upto now.

Not behind a router. Conncted right to the Modem. Its s USB modem bty.

I posted a thead about a week ago here to ask people who used Tiscali if they could tell me if they were having any sorts of problems lately. But i got no replys. Search for Tiscali on the forums for the thread.
