Hello,

I have earthlink DSL and included were three DSL phone filters from the brand 2-wire. I had to buy two more from Radio Shack because I have 5 jacks in my house. The 2-wire brand filters seem kinda chincy and people say we I am quiet on the phone on those lines. Is there a preferred brand to use for DSL phoneline filters? Does it matter? Where is the best place to buy?

I have Verizon DSL and use SIECOR line filters. If the Rat Shack filters work fine for you, why not buy a few more of them to replace the 2wire ones?

The other option would be to run a dedicated DSL line from a new DSL-ready junction box. The regular phone lines then wouldn't need any filters.

I am a DSL tech, and deal with this on a daily basis. I agree with the MPOE splitter as the best option, but often you will pay 150-200 for installation of such. We send customers filters from Excelsus, and refer customers to their site for reorder - www.excelsus-tech.com

How good the DSL filters are probably can't be known from how quiet the phone is. The filters are required to prevent shorting the inaudible high frequency DSL sig by the phone devices. I'm sure some interaction is possible though.

I geared up for my DSL service by getting a swanky Siecor wire-in POTS filter-splitter for the outside phone interface box and a dsl line line to run from there.
But, when the self-install kit arrived, I just slapped the 2-wire filters in and that was it. It's been working great, and since I am only 1/2 mile from the central office, this is probably all I need. However, if anyone is far from the CO or especially near the limit, by all means consider using a splitter at the interface.
An obsure phoneline connection to an attic alarm system can cause problems with the DSL sig and is another reason for using a splitter at the interface box.

Well, the Radio Shack by me is out of the filters. Best Buy has the Linksys brand. Anyone using Linksys and have feedback on if they are good or not?
