DSL Pauses when phone rings?

Recently installed SBC Yahoo DSL at my house, and it works great except for one thing- the dsl seems to pause for 30secs or so when the telephone rings, or is picked up to make a call. It only bothers me when I'm downloading and have to restart, but im still curious why it happens. As for filters, we installed a central one and split off before the house phones connect to the main terminal, so we wouldn't have to put a filter on each phone in the house (there's 6 separate phones on the single line in our house). Would a more powerful filter help this problem? I just installed one of the Y-adapter ones that SBC provided.

You've got a bad filter or no filter on the phone that's ringing.
