Hurricane Katrina destroyed Charter Communications Slidell office and cable tv and internet service for about 80,000 customers in my area. Charter doesn't have an answer for when the service might be back and can't even notify local authorities about what might be the next step. Some people are saying mid-November before they are ready to restore the majority of service.

So today I gave up on Charter and ordered DSL from Bellsouth. I figure I would get a DSL modem from local computer store and just get their software and install it. Their website told me it was gonna be nearly 6 months to get the package to install it!!

Times are slow here for service due to the storm. I've actually considered dial up. You always think about how life was before the net, how would you react if your neffing pipe, your home pipe, wasn't available for months?

Discuss.

i'd be forced to nef via cellphone but those are dial-up speeds so I may as well just use dial-up.
