DSL or Cable Internet in LA?

I'm movin' back to LA in a few days and I'm wondering what is the best HSI option out there these days and what typical prices are for each.

Other then that I'd say get what looks to be the better deal and make sure it's fast (ie have a grace period to actually try it).

DSL - I have had mine through Pacbell since they originally offered it.
HOWEVER, you can get a pretty good bundle with cable companies that include Digital TV if you watch a lot of TV.

I can't use cable or dynamic IP based DSL anyway, but thats just my case.

Do you have to have a land line to get DSL or can you just get DSL w/o paying for a "home phone" as well?

Most require you have a phone line from the same company.

You can get say Earthlink (Not reccomended) while your in a SBC or Verizon phone area....... I would go with SBC Global if your in a SBC area and look at some of the others listed on BroadBandReports if your in Verizon. I would definatly stay away from Covad... thier awful.

I know someone down there who has SBC Yahoo DSL. It seems to work well, but they install way too much damn CRAP on your computer..
