Long time lurker on this forum...but first post.

Have been on bellsouth 'fast access' for 3 months. They ran fiber through our neighborhood some time ago and recently started offering dsl on this network although they still run copper to the house.

My problem is that everytime the outside temp changes, the connection drops. I finally had a line tech admit this to me after I mentioned that I noticed the drops when the weather changed. He happened to be there once when I had no connection. Apparently on the original install, they don't even strip the wires. He told me that the connection wires were so small that the slightest bit of change caused it to lose connection. I am usually without service for at least a day when this happens. Over 90 days, I have had service about 30.

The tech support guys keep sending out line techs to look at the terminal box, but of course, by the time they get there, the weather has warmed up and all is well.

Anyone else have these problems on the fiber?

This is BS.

Fiber connections in-transit are "fusion spliced;" basically, the ends of the glass are melted together. This method is used because it results in the lowest loss.

Terminal (end) connections are usually a connector with either an epoxy or "crazy glue" type bonding agent. The glass is broken off at the end of the connector (cleaved and fractured), then polished on several grades of lapping film to a smooth finish (observed / verified on a microscope of sorts).

Thermal stability is guaranteed within any range that humans can exist.

The problem is much more likely to be in the electronic components that convert the fiber signal to copper, or (even more likely) a bad copper connector (poor crimp, flakey IDC (insulation displacement connector - a "punch down"), or just a weak punch).
