DSL modem?

I signed up for quest 256k dsl

I have an old adsl modem from ma bell (I think) around 1999

I had dsl a couple of months and moved (they let me out of the contract and I got to keep the equipment)

anyhow is is possible that modem would work, it would save me the $3 month rental fee

any input would be appritiated

why dont you try it & see if it works,only takes a few min & could save you 36$ a year. 🙂

my big concern is whether or not the modem itself still works, rather than if it's compatible with whatever is running through the wires ATM. I have an external 56K modem from USRobotics that, up until a few months ago, worked great. The equipment finally died on me, though.

if you plan on having the service for a long time, what about buying a new modem? it's more money up-front, but if you have the service long enough, you'll save in the long run.

I think it works I pluged it in but without service

I just didn't know what modem types would be compatible with the service

thought maybe it would also be cheaper to buy one not from qwest theirs is like $58 I think...

I don't know how long I will live in the apt the dsl is month to month (no yearly contract)

I'm a big fan of e-bay 🙂 you might be able to find the same modem that Qwest (?) supplies but for far cheaper.

and then when you move out, you can just sell it back to someone else on e-bay. heh.

ADSL works on a standard system (g.dmt or ansi t1.413) , and so buying a cheap modem that supports ADSL standards will work with your line, given that the Qwest line is a standard ADSL line.

Hell, even your last modem will work.

I was @ work when I posted this. Lousy night auditor job but time to burn. My old modem is a Efficient Networks. Inc. SpeedStream 5260 (if that helps)

Hardly used. As I sort of mentioned I got it free for signing up and got out of the deal when I moved.
