IMHO Ethernet without a question.

USB just puts more load on your CPU since it's a controllerless interface (like a Winmodem).

ethernet = good
usb = sharred bandwidth and cpu leakage of the cycle kind

Sorry i have never had a problem with ethernet and it is usually is free on the motherboard (cpu cycles though may or may not be an issue) now. I use a pci card but i never ever experienced any problems and all cpus are free for doing other things such as games, p..n and well games and p..n

That is probably *the* reason to avoid installing a USB DSL modem. I had the unfortunate experience of doing just that on a friend's computer during a DSL installation. Big mistake.

Ethernet is a well-understood, stable standard. It's also more flexible. Go with ethernet if at all possible. Heck, I would even suggest in cases in which you can't (Laptop with built-in USB but not ethernet), to get a cheap under-$20 USB NIC, and then use that to plug into the DSL modem's ethernet port.

I'm always a fan of ethernet when it comes to networking... for some reason I just don't trust USB like I trust ethernet. could be experiences like VirtualLarry is talking about I guess ;)

definitely go ethernet.
