Question DSL modem for centurylink needed

Hey guys. I need a cheap modem for my centurylink internet. This is not my area of expertise. Some quick recommendations are much needed.

Just use what they give you. DSL can be finicky so you don't want to risk incompatibility. Plus, they usually don't charge you 'extra' or anything like that.

I was kinda thinking the same thing. It's probably best to contact your ISP and have them send one to you for the best chance of compatibility and speeds...heh..... saying speed in a DSL thread just seems wrong.

Kind of OT but why is it that DSL and fiber seem to need an ISP issued modem but cable providers don't? What's so special about dsl and fiber that nine times outta ten the ISP issued modem is the only option?
