DSL modem disconnecting every night

We have Sympatico regular high speed with a D-Link router and a few computers networked. Normally our internet works just fine, but recently it seems that the modem disconnects every night and we have to reset it every morning. This has been happening consistently for the past couple weeks.

What could be causing this? I do plan on calling my ISP, I am wondering if it's a modem problem.

It might be a policy of your ISP to disconnect after a period od inactivity.

In a Router's WAN side there is usually a menu entry that can be checked to keep the connection alive.

If you check the menu, it might solve the problem otherwise call the ISP.

My connection mode is set to "always on" so I don't think it's because of idle time. How do I check my SNR? How do I even access the modem interface?

In any case this is a fairly recent occurrence and our setup hasn't changed in the several years we've had it, and everything worked just fine until very recently. Any possibility this could be the result of spyware on one of the machines? could the modem be failing to acquire a new IP? Although it's kind of odd that I would be getting a new IP every night.

It is Not Many DSL providers change the IP very often.

Verizon would change the IP10 times in 10 Min. if I disconnect/connect ten times.

It's possible that the ISP has some sort of capacity shortfall and has become agressive about disconnecting on inactivity.

Are there never disconnections during the daytime?

Its definitely not an idle/inactivity issue. I woke up early today and the modem disconnected while I was using it.

So this is likely an ISP issue and not a modem issue?
