Hi Guys,

I've been set up with ADSL from Pipex (UK) for the past 6 months, using a D-Link 300G+ ADSL modem connected to a Belkin Wireless Gateway/Router - forgotten the product code but here's the link

http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProd...ion_Path=/Root/Networking/WirelessNetworking/

The ADSL line goes to the back of the ADSL modem, and then an ethernet cable runs from the the modem to WAN port on the Router. LAN port 1 is connected to my home PC, running Windows XP Home. I plan to add two more PC's soon and my wife uses a Win XP Pro Laptop with a wireless network card to connect up.

I also use a Toshiba e740 Wi-Fi PDA to connect using the wireless router.

Now here's the problems......

Firstly, I cannot always access the Internet - Pipex uses 'sticky' IP addresses, not truly dynamic so they change after a day or so. Once they have changed, I normally have to reboot the PC which sorts everything out and everything connects again. Alternatively I can log onto the ADSL router and click Refresh a few times and the status changes to Connected.

This is more annoying than anything else, I don't leave the PC on all the time (mainly because I live in a small flat and it's a bit noisy) so would like to just switch on and have access on the first boot. Any ideas?

The second problem is peculiar - even when everything is connected, I cannot logon to my ADSL modem (the DSL-300G+), but I can ping it's address and it replies fine - has anyone else seen this?

Thanks in advance for your help guys n gals!

Steve

Well, it seems I have a similar problem. Although not as bad as you do. Usually when the internet is not working, I telnet my modem and reboot it. That fixes the issue. Every once in a while I have to switch it off and back on in order to have it connected. This happens every other week or so.

I'm also using a dynamic IP provider. I have an ARESCOM NetDSL 1000, wich is a DSL modem with a NAT/DHCP router bult in.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the replies! I've not tried the telnet command, but I have managed to get access to the Modem Web interface again. Whenever I've tried a direct connection using just the ADSL modem, it seems to work fine - but obviously the other devices need the wireless router to access the web so I want to get this working as near to 100% as possible. To be honest, if I can set up some commands which run to reset the connection between the router and modem without rebooting that would be fine - what are the telnet commands?

Cheers

Steve

In my unit is very simple:

Microsoft Telnet> Open 192.168.1.1

Router> reboot

This reboot the entire unit (remember I have the DSL modem AND router in the same box). You can try telneting and rebooting your modem bypassing the router.

That seems about right. Mine simply disconnects when it's idle for a few hours, and reconnects itself in 2 seconds when there's a request from inside the LAN. This gives me weeks of connectivity.
