? DSL modem' (are they all compatable for all isp's)

i'm ready to sign on with a dsl server and i'd like to know if i buy my own (dsl modem) will it work with any company ,because there trying to sell me one of theirs ?????

not necessarily, unfourtunatly there isn't a standard, thats one reason some people may suggest renting a router instead of buying. its worth trying though, IMO.

Ask your DSL provider what chipset they use in their ADSL equipment. Then buy a modem that is compatible with that chipset. Alternatively you can ask them what CPE will work with their equipment and find something compatible to that. Don't expect the DSL provider to be much help you if you have problems, though! They will say, "Hook up the modem we sent you. Does it work? Good. It sounds like a problem with your equipment."

If you can at least get information about the brand of DSLAM they have in their network then we could probably help you more with specific equipment recommendations.

Renting one will save you tons of headaches. If it ever dies, which they are known to do, they will replace it...otherwise it's your problem. And, if they upgrade their service, they will just give you a new one instead of you having to go out and buy one.
