Dsl is messing up my burner!

anyone.....we just hooked up to dsl through swbell here in Texas and suddenly our cd burner is not able to burn any files off the internet. The machine locks up after 1 or 2 percent of the file is completed. We have tried the obvious stuff like memory problems, dll issues, and we even updated the adaptec software on the burner to the 4.03b to no avail. The burner works just fine cd to cd so the hardware is ok. We are running Windows 98. Has anyone seen this problem....HELP!

Can't burn off the internet?????? I take it you are trying to save files that you are downloading directly to a disk, and are not succeeding in this endevor.
One of the reasons you are not having any luck at this is the fact that to burn a cd at even 1x you need a sustained data flow of around 146 kb/sec, although your DSL might be able to support this speed the server at the other end may not. Additionally internat data transmission is in a packet form, kind of like a factory packing ceral boxes> the box gets full an then is sent down the line, so you have a series of sending-stop-sending-stop data transmissions.
You can packet write a cd, but if the transmission rate is to slow forget it. Just down it to the hard drive and then burnit, that way you can test it and check it for bugs.
That is unless you are needing coasters and wind chimes made from underun CD-R/RW disks

what do you mean exactly by not being able to burn files from the internet?

If you mean you can't burn files you download, then either your connection is damaging the files or there's a driver problem. Corrupted files could be from drivers too of course.

Did the NIC come with the cable modem? If so, what kind is it? Check for driver updates, same for your SCSI card if you have one for that burner. If you have a SCSI burner, check if the NIC uses the same IRQ as it. If not, check the IRQ's anyway and see if the IDE and NIC are the same.. or the NIC and anything else. It shouldn't matter in a perfect world but maybe the NIC is foobar'ing your system and mucking the burner's ability.

morriswindgate is right. If you try to burn a download directly, you are asking for a coaster. Burnproof may help this-but why not save to hardrive first?
