DSL first timer needs answers/advice

Im getting DSL and want to know if I need a NIC or not. The reason I ask is that at work my computer connects without one. Maybe there is a reason for this that I dont know. My mother board is a DFI ultra-d. Also, recommend me a modem! please
 
There is a good chance that your ISP will provide you with a modem as a part of your installation. If not, you should check with them as to any specific requirements they have. Your motherboard should have integrated NICs.
