I called up Ameritech today to find out about DSL service agian. They told me that the central office had been upgraded but they haven't installed repeaters which are required to reach me.

They say with out the reapeaters they can only reach 8,500 feet and that the repeaters will double the distance. I punched my number in the dsl search and it says I'm 9000 to 11,000 feet away.

If anybody knows more dsl let me know if this is just BS ?????????

They say it will be another 2 months (I'll believe that when I see it).

Try downloading 650 megs on a dialup !

It's possible they're telling the truth. Current DSL tech maxes out at approximately 20,000 feet or so. And it's possible that they don't have repeaters.. tho i wouldn't call it that.

I'm not sure on the measurements, but I think they will need repeaters after 12000'

This is what I know, straight from dslreports.com
9000' = technical limit for 8Mbps ADSL
12000'= limit after which SBC will charge "loop conditioning" to CLECs
16000'= technical limit for 2Mbps ADSL
22000'= technical limit for G.lite(1000/384)

The loop conditioning part is related to repeaters.

Some companies have different measurements of your distance to a CO, so check with other companies in your area and you might get a different answer. Go to dslreports and find whoelse could serve you.
