My IDSL modem has a built-in firewall/router, and on top of that I use Zone Alarm. According to Steve Gibson's site, we are stealthy! :)

I had DSL for over a year and now have a cable modem. I've used ZoneAlarm throughout.

Blackice and ZoneAlarm are good, but imho, tiny firewall has worked out great for me, has features the other ones dont and its free too.

best thing to do is go here and see how open to the world you are. once i set up tiny, it said i was stealth.

anyone who uses cable or dsl definately does need a firewall!

if you -think- you dont, think again.

oh yea.. linux firewall is great too if you know what your doing.

I have been using Zone Alarm since the day I connected my DSL. It works, it's easy, and it's free.

Zone Alarm. It's free easy to use and if your not using your machine to do ICS, set the security to high and your machine is stealthed out. :) I tried BlackICE. But it freaks out too often. Breaks with just any update for Windows (98 and 2K) and doesn't check outgoing traffic (trojans and such), just incoming traffic. A hardware firewall is definately the way to go if you have the $$$.

Concern about the ZoneAlarm has Two Different version, Zonealarm and Pro,Ok Question PRo has including NAT And ICS for a Internet Network Sharing, Does it ? cause conflict on IP Address nor can be disable NAT and ICS ? For Cable and Dsl has NIC card !

Or Otherwise for Simple on ZoneAlarm less hassle protection between
Cable and DSL ? What your Opinion ? Which one Better to go !

One benefit people seem to forget about firewalls, is not just keeping hackers out but also sniffing out snoopware.

Case in point AOL, RealAudio and all the others who keep transmitting information about you and your computer back to their servers without your permission.

I found that ZoneAlarm did a wonderful job of tracking these culprit down.

My 2 cents.
