DSL and wireless networking

Simple question. Our apartment complex has a deal with both directv and SBC I found out yesterday, so that means sattelite TV and DSL broadband internet are my only options. So my cable internet with wireless network idea is out the drain.

Does wireless networking play nice with DSL? I only ask because I have DSL here at home, and we have a cordless phone that plugs into the wall at one location and the handset plugs into just an electrical socket at another location. This slows the DSL down more that 50% and I was wondering if DSL would ahve that problem with a wireless network.

For the first question, dsl will work just fine with the wireless network. Just get some goods products and with using (PPPOE, I believe SBC uses this protocol) you will be fine. As for the second question, I have heard of 2.4ghz phones occassionally causing the connection to drop totally but never to cut the bandwidth by 50%. What type of setup are you using there? (router and dsl modem or just dsl modem). To me it sounds like a line quality problem if this bandwidth is consitantly cut down.

BTW: If it is possible you can try plugging the dsl modem in at the phone company test port (should be located on a wall inside of where the inital phone line enters). This is what is called the NID and using the connection here elimates the possiblity of other phone wiring in the home from downgrading the dsl sync and line speed. Hope this helps some :)

brand new house, SBC already checked the wiring, the wiring is perfect. I am running 1500/128 and it's straight DSL modem setup.

The phone is weird, cause the actual phone that plugs into the wall is corded. Then the cordless headset plugs in somwhere else in the house WITHOUT plugging into the phone line. The damn thing cripples my bandwidth whether I am on it or not. If I unplug the cordless receiver, bandwidth jumps back to 100%, so I know its the phone that is causing hell. I'd get a new phone, but this one cost $129 :Q

DSL Interference. DSL operates across a wide frequency spectrum, and particular ADSL and G.lite, can vary speed downwards in response to noise on the line. There are often no user visible statistics on whether this is happening, and the only symptom is poor performance. Checking around the house for possible sources can sometimes reap rewards of immediate speed gain. Things such as poor house wiring, long home phone cable runs (rather than locating the DSL modem as close to the entry point of the line as possible), or in the case of ADSL, micro-filters of insufficient quality, or being installed backwards, older fax machines, or poor quality phone extension handsets. Even cordless phones and floro lights should be regarded with suspicion. By a process of elimination though, you can determine which if any of these possible problems is the cause of your persistent poor speed.

I used to have a DSL connection and it was a pain having to deal with line interference so I switched to cable. If I had everything in my house hooked up normally the max speed I would get on a 768/128 connection was about 300.

DSL has nothing to do Wireless, it is entirely two different entities.

On the other hand 2.4GHz cordless phones are Wireless bitter enemy.

Wireless 2.4GHz.

Cordless 2.4GHz.

Two guys competing for the same girl. :Q:brokenheart::D

That is an option.
