DSL and Linksys Router will not access Router on PPPoE!

I am trying to setup a AOL DSL connection with a Linksys WRT54G Wireless Router. I followed the directions exactly as specified on the CD about 8 times and I tried the EasyConnect Software avaiable on the Linksys site about 4 times. I also read the "How To Set Up PPPoE DSL Connections with a Linksys Router" on the Linksys site.

I can connect to the internet if I directly connect the DSL modem to computer, but when I follow the directions to setup the Router it will not acccess the internet.

Whats weird though is that when I look at my network connections window it does show a Internet Gateway Icon but it says disabled and it will not enable no matter how many times I click it.

I am not sure if I am using the Master AOL account to login or just a a sub account. Does this matter? Also I am confused as one of the guides I read said to enter America Online as the user name and ignore the password. The main guide I am reading which I mentioned at the top says to use screenname@aol.com for login. They mean to use my own AOL email login right and not "screenname@aol.com"?

To log a Router the Internet while hacing DSl Connetion, you have to set the Router for DSL and insert into the Router?s menu the ID and password, you better of learn how to do it manually and not use the CD.

Which ID and password? Ask AOL they usually have their own ?Tricks?.

I know how to do it manually and did the first few times I tried this. When it didnt work I used the CD since that should be more fool proof.

Anyways I found this FAQ quote from 2004, do you think its still valid now?

*Note: AOL currently allows special characters and has extended the character length limit for passwords when using the AOL 9.0 Optimized. THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO PPPoE AUHTENTICATION! Please make sure that your username and password are purely made up of letters and numbers, all in lowercase. Passwords must NOT exceed 8 characters in length. Spaces are NOT acceptable!* Failure to follow will result in an error in PPPoE Authenction.
