Ok. I'm trying to connect this linksys router to my dsl connection and am having no luck at all. I can browse my network, but no internet connection. I only have internet when pc is directly connected to the dsl modem. I Have tried "PPOE" with my username and password. Have tried "obtain settings automatically." Can't figure this thing out at all. Its like the modem isn't being recongnized by the router. I Have tried manually entering dns and gateway server information, no luck. Using windows xp pro. I have bellsouth as my isp. I am very frustrated. I have tried resetting the modem/router as well. Called linksys and they said to turn off the router and modem for 30 minutes so that they can reset themselves. That did not work either. I would love to play starwars galaxies but have to get this to work first. lol Can anybody pass on any wisdom?
Thanks

What sort of DSL connection to you have? Is it a PPPOE connection or do you have a static IP? If it's PPPOE, put in your username and password again and tell it to connect. View the status of the router to see if it connected.

Have you tried upgrading the firmware on the router?

Well the linksys guy seems to think that it is pppoe. I don't have to log in with a username and password every time I access the internet though. I've tried setting that up in the router but it still won't connect. I haven't tried to update the firmware though. I do not have a static IP address.

I tried to @bellsouth thing too. Someone told me that you can'y hook a router to bellsouth dsl without a static ip. Is this true? I had never heard of that before. Someone also told me that by default the linksys router and the dsl modem might both be using 192.168.1.1 as the ip and therefore one needs to be changed. If this is true I don't know how to do it off the top of my head.
Thanks for all the help so far.

I've never heard of not being able to hook up a router without a static IP. My cable modem uses 192.168.100.1 as its address. If the router and the modem are both using the same IP address you can change the router's address. On the setup tab of the linksys router there are 4 boxes with the words Device IP Address after them. You can safely change the last box to any number below 100. The router's DHCP will by default assign LAN IPs starting with 192.168.1.100.

kind of confused...are you using ppoe to connect to your DSL (ie you have to logon with a username and password in windows) or is it always on? If it's always on then you should not have to enter anything into the ppoe setup in the router settings. You might want to also try an internet connection autodetect through the router if it has that feature.
