DSL and Cable

Ok i am moving into an appartment in a few days for college and i need some high speed connections.

here is the thing. At the moment we are getting free cable...becuase they screwed up and dont know about or seem to not care....So I can either get a cable modem witch is better but then also have to pay the extra for the TV cable...

Or get the DSL which is slower right?
