DSL @10,000,000bps?

That is correct, but I know of no DSL provider that even has the ability to offer 10Mb connections. I believe aDSL has the capability to go up to 8-9 Mbps downstream but would be VERY expensive.

I'm sorry y'all. I just reread what I wrote and noticed I didn't explain the situation well enough. I am posting 10,000,000 bps in my dialup screen. Also I just downloaded from cnet and posted 100+K/sec. These both seem hi for basic DSL. Any thoughts?

As Always,
D

100K is not unusual for a good 1.5 Mb aDSL connection. You will see faster at times, depending on the connection at the other end, if you are close to your CO.
As far as the 10 meg. I guess you are using a PPPOE client of which I have no experience. I am guessing you have a 10BaseT NIC to DSL modem connection with Cat5 cable and that is what the Dialup speed is showing.

???

<< 8bits = 1Byte
10,000,000 bits = 1.25 MBps?
>>

1.25 Mbps usually means 1 250 000 bits per second, although it may mean 1 310 720 bits per second, or else 1280000 bits per second.

1 250 000 bps / 8 = 156 250 bytes/second = 152.6 Kbytes/second

So therefore you should expect to get anywhere between 80 and 150 Kbytes/s. Your 100 Kbytes/s sounds about right, but I don't know where you're getting that 10 000 000 from. Are you sure it's not 1 000 000?

On my 960 000 bps line, I usually get around 60-80 Kbytes/s.

The installer told me it was the default display of bps. I have 512/ earthlink/sprint fastconnect using PPoE. It says 10,000,000bps everytime
