I know this is not a question, but I just installed the ati tv wonder pci card on my new pc w/windows xp. Installation has been a nightmare. the card worked only occaisonally, most of the time i got jagged lines and worse, when it did work and i tried to open another app, the pc would freeze compeletely forcing me to use the reset button. I know this a common problem with ATI's software and xp. However, after hunting around this forum, someone recommended a free download at http://www.dscaler.com/. The tv tuner software works beautifully so far. If you are having problems with XP, I would recommend that you try it. :D

While my TV-Wonder PCI install worked fine from the Get-Go in XP, I installed DScaler a few weeks back and was blown away by the quality.

Anyone who's using a TV-Wonder owes it to themselves to install DScaler and get it working. The quality is amazing.

I plan on buying an ATI TV Wonder PCI card soon.. what exactly is dscaler though? Is it a program like virtual dub or is it some kind of filters or something? Sorry.. I'm totally clueless when it comes to capturing... but it seems like fun to capture some stuff off the TV and such..

It's a program that you can use instead of ATi's TV-viewing program to watch TV (or use the breakout box to play games, watch movies etc) on. In a nutshell, it makes everything look a lot nicer.

Oh I see. Does it capture video also?

Wait... still confused.. for MMC 7.1 - 7.5 is that the software to record/watch tv etc.... or are they the drivers.. or BOTH?

I'm using Windows XP and when I get the card, I wanna know what to install

thanks

When you get the card do not install whatever comes on the install CD. TV Wonder PCI is a bit aging, and the CD I got with mine was MMC 2.5. That totally didn't work on my 98 install, and I doubt it even knew what 2k or XP was.

Just download MMC7.1 (anything else won't work with the TV Wonder.. officially). READ the directions that will appear on screen. They'll tell you to install the WMD files that will unzip into your C:\ATi directory (or whereever you tell them to), and THEN go into there and install MMC. They're all in the same file initial file from ati.com

I don't think DScaler can take movies.. at least, I haven't used it for that. It can do still pictures, but not movies. It's still really great for playing games or watching movies or stuff, though. And you can have them both installed at the same time.
