-= Moved from official DS3 thread since nobody seems to check there much anymore. =-
Okay, I'm having some wierd errors. They're more annoying than anything but I'd like to get it sorted out.
Gigabyte DS3 (P965) v1.0 F7 bios
Dual boot XP Pro/Vista Business
Boot - WD Raptor 74gb on SATAII0 (2 partitions, one for each OS)
Apps - Maxtor 320gb (STM3200820AS) on SATAII1
Storage - Seagate PATA on PCI IDE controller
ICH8 driver version 8.0.0.1008
When I originally installed Vista, I had the Maxtor on GSATAII0, but Vista wouldn't recognize it. I moved it over to SATAII1 and works fine in Vista, but now when XP loads, it goes through the Found New Hardware routine, but then the installation fails. The Maxtor still works like it's supposed to, it's partitioned drive letters are exactly the same, and the apps I run off it work perfectly.
I've tried to re-install the chipset drivers with the latest infinst_autol.exe, gave the Matrix config a shot but won't install with ICH8 (vs. ICH8R). Tried the usual "update driver" through control panel for both the hard drive and SATA controllers.
Can't find a download that I trust of driver version 8.1.1.1010.
Also, I started getting a USB error in XP when I plug in a flash drive. Same thing, the hardware installation fails, but works normally. This started happening when I started messing around with trying to install new chipset drivers etc.
I don't want to update BIOS version if I can help it, since my Vista installation is an Action Pack volume license and I don't want to burn another activation.
I remember a whole section of the "official" thread was dedicated to SATA issues like this, but I can't find them since the thread is so long now.
Thanks for any ideas.
EDIT: Supplemental info...
2 optical drives on the IDE port so can't shut that down
BIOS settings:
SATA port 0-3 Native Mode - Enabled
Onboard SATA/IDE Device - Enabled
Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode - IDE
All USB settings enabled.
