ds3 ram

I am buying a GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3 and it says the memory standard is ddr2 800. Well I only have enough for the motherboard and not any new ram right now. Can this board run my old ddr2 PC2-4300(266 MHz) and PC2 5300 (333 MHz) ram? I would think it would support it but before I buy i wanna make sure.

You should be OK running the slower RAM, but I doubt it will OC very much. IF it does not run with the 4300 stick, try booting with just the 5300 stick.

According to Gigabyte's site, the DS3 supports:
1. Supports DDR2 800/667/533 memory

So YES, it supports both speeds you currently have. If you're using both, it will downclock the faster ram to the slower ram's speed.

I had the same issue and just because a motherboard supports supposedly a slower speed ram does not mean this person will not have boot up issues....

My experience has been most motherbaords do not like different speed ram modules being used to gether...usually they work fine using one or the other...rarely using both

It'll downclock it all anyway to 266 unless he's overclocking.

alright thanks... so how much performance increase would i see with ddr2 800 mhz instead of my slow 226? And with that 226 can i overclock an e6300 at all?

It is doubtful your 6300 would overclock much using the 226, but you might be able to squeeze a tad bit out of it.

As for the increase in performance using ddr2 800, there would be no difference at stock speeds, but overclocked it would be a huge difference. Just running the RAM at its rated speed would give you 7X400 or 2.8G on the CPU. That is quite the jump from stock! If you OC the RAM above this mark, you should be able to go even higher.

Hmm, I have 2GB of DDR2 400 memory, if I ran a E4300 at stock speed, I should be able to use it on this board right?
