DS3 on board sound

I have a SB audigy 2 sound card from my old pc and I want to know if its worth using up the pci slot in the ds3 which apparently has the realtek ALC883 on board audio. I have klipsch 5.1 speakers if that would make a difference.

I've got Klipsch 2.1 speakers with the DS3 onboard audio and it sounds good enough for me. If I were you, I'd try it both ways. Everyone has a different ear for sound. What sounds good enough for me may sound crappy to you.

Use a sound card for analog audio, stick with onboard for digital audio.

but the ALC 883 doesn't support dolby digital live, so i don't see why you'd want to use it digitally.

anyways, though, i'd say both the card and onboard sound will have roughly the same quality. its possible the audigy might have lower CPU usage in games, although azalia audio has made great strides in reducing CPU usage compared to AC97 audio.

Not many places where I have PCM multichannel anyway. And I have DTS Neo:6 on my receiver. DTS Connect (or DDL) would be cool though. Wonder what chip the P5NSLI has (I just ordered it today), I hope it's the AD one.
