DS Lite vs DSi

For you guys that have either ones or both of those handheld, which one do you prefer based on their fonctionalities, options, quality, etc...

DSi.

The camera and added option of downloading games to it are nice.

That said, I'd probably hold off for the 3DS at this point.

3DS is probably worth the wait...

What I dislike about the DSi is that they remoevd the GBA port...which was a stupid move...

I've got a first-generation DS, and even though I agree that removing the GBA port cuts out a pretty powerful piece of functionality, in practice I haven't touched my GBA library in over a year (sorry, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance).

This was actually a failing of Nintendo IMHO. They should have put GBA games up on the Nintendo Store for download.

That would be nice. I sold all my gba stuff in a bundle a while back and would probably pay a fair dl price for metroid fusion and zero mission on my daughter's DSi.

the lack fo GBA port really piss's me off. but i did purchase a DSi XL just for the fact its far larger. wich i think is well worth it.

but i do have about 10 GBA games i do enjoy playing.

I just bought Fusion in gamestop the other day because I never finished it. Cost me like $5. Very glad I have that GBA slot in my DS 🙂

The one thing I don't like though is how much the GBA games stick out when playing. I guess that's the sacrifice you make when downsizing a handheld, but it's still kind of annoying.

Man, I was at the final boss in Metroid Zero on my DS Lite, beat the first phase and as soon as that happened I inexplicably touched and slightly moved the catridge and the game froze. I restarted the game and it told me that a corrupted save file was detected and it proceeded to erase it. Bummer.

Oh, and +1 wait for 3DS. At the very least you can probably find a much cheaper DS Lite at that point.

I went threw the same issue a few months ago and decided to go with the dsi. It feels like a much more solid piece of hardware and the bit larger screens made a surprising difference.

thats why i got the DSi XL. the 4.2 inch screen is much nicer then the 3inch of the lite or the 3.2 of the DSi

i could do without the extra memory card and keep the GBA slot though

Eh? I thought the cameras were extremely terrible, both in quality and functionality.

Still prefer DSi for increased screen size and an additional level of brightness.

They aren't of great quality (early cell phone models) but they can be fun with the right games. Like Photo Dojo.

The cameras are fun. my kids enjoy takeing pictures and editing them.

they aren't great though by any means. still i would give up the cameras and SD card slot for a GBA

There is a cool program called flipnote on the dsi. Users can create animiations with it and upload and share their content. My daughter's actually made some pretty cool toons with them, and she uses the dsi mic to record audio that she wants to put in her animation. She's hooked on that thing.
