So, it is that time of the year that I get tasked with "find a DS game for our nephew". Never any guidance and I live 1/2 across the country so I don't interactive with him that much. He really liked Castlevania: DoS, and even is enjoying chrono trigger (although i know he just skips past the dialogue). I want to hold off on the FF till he is more interested in following the story.

What do you recommend? I know he has New Super Mario Bros., Chrono Trigger, a few Castlevania games. He also has a ton of pixar/disney/cartoon games that he beats in about 2 days.

Good recommendations? Would he like scribblenaughts? how about Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story? anything else?

It may sound obvious but give Pokemon Diamond & Pearl/Platinum a try.

Awesome Idea.

M&L: Bowser's Inside Story is supposed to be great, but it is a classic JRPG and therefore has lots of dialog and turn-based battles.

Pokemon has these things too, but the dialog really isn't important and the battle are must faster.

If you want a more action oriented game, you could get him Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, which is a good Zelda game.

There is also Elite Beat Agents, a very popular music game.

How old is he? If he is old enough, GTA: Chinatown Wars is a possibility.

The OP said he was 9 years old. GTA: Chinatown Wars is M rated. Some kids can handle that kind of stuff, some can't. Best not to take the risk.

Whoops, somehow missed that.

The other options are on the table, but I think GTA is a no go for a 9 year old.

Scribblenaughts is a highly creative game, I think a kid that age would have a lot of fun with it, as long as he's comfortable with vocabulary.

It's a pretty old title so you may need to hunt for it online, but the original Meteos (and the pseudo-sequel Meteos: Disney Magic) is a great falling block puzzler in the vein of Tetris.

Puzzle Quest (the original, not Galactrix) is probably the game which has logged the most hours on my DS and should appeal to both RPG and Bejeweled fans.

Some folks don't like the cel-shaded versions, but The Legend of Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass is still loads of fun.
