ds and ds lite hardware question

my daughter has a ds that doesn't work and a ds lite, the top screen of which is damaged. although the machine still works.
does anyone know if it would be possible to remove the top screen of the ds and use it in the ds lite?
they look pretty similar in size. but i don't want to take them apart if it wouldn't fit, or it isn't compatible.
