So our stucco comes up about 3 feet off the ground and then the siding takes over. We had our deck removed and installed a nice new patio. I would like to do something with the stucco wall because it's dirty from years of neglect. We don't have any issues with water getting into the basement but I wouldn't mind making it waterproof (if possible).

Can I use Drylok on the stucco? And what about painting it a non-white color. I read numerous sites that said paint would do more harm to the stucco.

not sure about stucco but i do know brick is not supposed to be sealed.
..it needs to breathe and drain. I imagine stucco may be similar as it expands/contracts with changing weather and humidity?

Yeah since I havent seen any water in the basement since we moved in (3yrs ago), I'm ok with painting it so I can get rid of the ugly dark spots. I just dont want to F up the stucco.

I used that on my exterior basement wall since it goes up 2-3 past the ground and it's a yearly process. The stuff keeps coming off in chips on my concrete.

The wall was completely (concrete) patched about 8 years ago. I waited a year, cleaned it up and applied the Drylock. Been fixing it ever since. Not sure if living in the East with cold, snow and rain has had an effect on it or not.

Which stuff? The Behr?

If you're referring to the Drylok, can it be tinted? I don't want white. :)

I don't blame you, white would be terrible :)

No this stuff:

I never tried a Behr water proofing paint, didn't know they made it. Anyway I always get that beige pre-mix color, but according to the link their website says it's tintable.

They also have a granite like paint called designer-drylok which looks pretty cool.

These guys which are selling a service https://www.triadbasementwaterproofing.com/warning-signs/prevent-remove-drylock-flake/ is saying Drylok flakes off because it's letting moisture through. I wonder if that's why mine constantly does that, though the water would have to come from inside my basement to do that.

Ah ok, i misread your message. I read numerous sites saying to "fix" stucco you should re-stucco it. I haven't had any water issue since we moved in 3 yrs ago (knock on wood), so I dont want to F up what is there now. I read if you attempt to paint it, it may do damage to the stucco.
