I've had my dryer for 10 yrs.

i do 1 load every 2 weeks.

i clean the lint trap everytime i use it.

but as time goes by, it seems my clothes are drying less and less with the same amount of clothes.

i have to set the cycle longer and longer to get my clothes dry.

Is this normal?

If not, what's wrong?

THX!

edit:
Electric dryer

Open up the exhaust tubing and clean that out. That is prob. clogged after 10 years of use.

i don't know, maybe performance gets worse over time? I don't think anything is like new, especially after 10 years of daily use.

That's what I thought. I've been told, by an uncle who has an appliance repair shop, that electric dryers get weaker as the years go by. That's why when I was in the market for a new one a couple of years ago he suggested I go with gas. Hard to ignore his advice when he and his wife have a 20+ year old Kenmore gas dryer that is still getting it done.

when i got my new house my pipe was clogged half way up to the roof, a 200 mph blower didnt do the trick, i had to run the hose to the roof and run water in the vent and left a huge bucket at the end where the dryer connects, basically i filled up two 5 gallon buckets of wet lent and that fixed my dryer from not drying clothes.

Winner: Buy a new one.

You should replace home appliances about once every 5 years, or you're going to get problems.

Your dryer was vented through the roof? WTF? Never seen that.

lol. No. I simply enjoy having new appliances very often.

Who wants to use the same interfaces and designs on their appliances for a decade of their life? I enjoy change.

Could be several things. Heating element in the electric dryer could be wearing out. Spin cycle in washer could be slowing, leaving clothes wetter, therefore taking longer to dry. Lint exhaust tube could be clogged, inhibiting airflow, yielding poor drying results. The last two you can check for yourself; the heating element would require a service tech. Good luck!!

Out the wall in the laundry room. Never seen a house that wasn't done that way. Of course I guess if your laundry room isn't in an area with outside walls I can see taking the vent through the roof.

Shouldn't you be washing your hands or arranging match sticks right now?
