Dry ice is solidified CO2 gas. When it warms up, it sublimates into a much larger volume of CO2 gas. The CO2 has only a small container to expand into, so to pressure rises as more and more CO2 sublimates. Once the pressure threshold of the container is exceeded, it explodes.

its pretty simple
dry ice sublimanates (sp) goes directly from solid to gas, water speeds up teh priocess, put dry ice in a bottle with a lil water and put on teh cap, the dry ice will turn to gas FAST and because it cant escape it goes boom

Ahh, that's exactly what I was wondering. Just like the tin foil/drain cleaner there is chemical reaction which causes the gas to expand. I was wondering how dry ice alone would cause it to explose, water is the key then. mucho gracias.
