Cool wave here today: Mostly Cloudy - 111° | 76° :D

I had to crank the CPU fan to 2000 RPM. 1500 RPM wasn't cutting it...

Normally my CPU/Mobo temps are the same @ idle, but CHECK IT OUT

How are things on your end?

We have had a heat wave with little rain here in the Indianapolis area for the last few weeks, I turned down the OC on my 6600 back to 3.2 from 3.5. It wasn't overheating but idle temps jumped from 27-30 to mid 40s when we had the windows open and the AC off. My wife drives me crazy and opens up the house when its this hot because she thinks the cats want to look outside. The cats live better than we do......but I digress

Good idea!

I just lower my EE down to 3.4GHz (default).

I'm not so worried about the CPU as the GPU, MOSFETs, NB, et cetera... ;)

ahahaha..

my quads dont break 70C vin. Even with the AC off.

However i think i toasted my 680i. The power mosfets near the cpu, even with a fan got hot. Now the board wont keep stable for long periods of times, and i have a WORSE vdroop. It drops by .2V

The board is off to RMA. And i need to think of a better way to cool those suckers down.

Dude! When I'm pushing 4.0GHz I can actually smell my MOSFETs cooking! :Q

It's probably just the dust burning off the HSs, but it scary all the same, you know?

Doesn't eVGA make mosfet blocks for their boards? Also, I think Thermalright is building mosfet heatsinks, new ones with different mountings. Oh, did you also try to hard mount the current heatsink?

bane i figured out the issue with my board.

One of my caps must of went bad because im not geting stable voltage to my cores anymore.

If i look in bios, it will droop very badly, sometimes as much as .5V <--- >

Anyhow i took her apart and im awaiting a new board from evga. They already mailed it out so i should be back running next week on the main rig.

For now im on my X3220, so its not much of a downstep, but i miss my SLI.

AigoMorla -- Just saying this, because I know all sides of questions about a certain "flagship" motherboard.

IF you toasted your mobo, and even if you can RMA and receive replacement board, consider putting it up for bid while you look for a Striker Extreme.

Consider these features:

Capless voltage regulation
Heatpipes on Mosfets, NB and SB, all copper
8-cycle-voltage-regulation
"StackCool" ASUS "proprietary" design feature

Whatever components you may have been unable to cool effectively with your extensive and custom water-cooling setup, would be addressed by some or all of these features.

Heh!

This mobo is quickly coming up on my radar screen!

Been reading a LOT of good stuff about it... :D

No heat wave here is Ottawa, Canada but my opto is running at 56c and north bridge at 75c.

It's been running for ever at this temp so just waiting for it to blow so I can upgrade to C2D. Not sure if I'll spend too much on mobo like the "Striker Extreme" but for sure something that will support quads.
